This involved a legal case regarding claims of carbon monoxide (CO) contamination and consequent adverse health effects for the renter of an apartment in San Francisco, CA, as a consequence of exposure to CO poisoning from a defective wall furnace.
We were retained by the plaintiff's attorney to evaluate the claims and perform indoor modeling of CO exposure. Our work included review of documents and reports; inspection of the apartment and measurements of dimensions and ventilation feature; design and implementation of an indoor tracer experiment using SF6 tracer; and calculation of CO emission rate from the furnace; calculation of CO concentrations inside the apartment under different residential scenarios using an indoor box model.
